About the Exhibition

The solo exhibition Imaginarium by Professor Rafał Strent has a retrospective character. It presents both prints created several decades ago and his most recent paintings, revealing the consistency and evolution of his artistic approach.

From the very beginning, the Artist’s work has been driven by a need for experimentation. In printmaking, which he practiced for many years, he consciously transgressed technological constraints, treating the matrix not as a tool of reproduction but as a field for creative intervention. He experimented with form and color, modifying the process of multiplication so that each impression within a given series became an autonomous, unique work. This courage in challenging established rules—combined with deep respect for craftsmanship—remains the foundation of his artistic practice to this day.

A special place in the exhibition is devoted to works from his latest painting cycle. These paintings are joyful, fresh, and full of visual energy. Multi-layered scenes of everyday life coexist with fantastical elements. The inspiration comes from the Artist’s lived experiences, memories, and observations, which take on a surreal, at times oneiric character. Reality is filtered through imagination—as if viewed in a half-dream, in a state of attentive and tender reflection.

The Artist’s family, including his grandchildren, is also involved in the creative process. This intergenerational dialogue lends the paintings lightness and authenticity. It is art born of relationships, conversation, and shared experience. The works function as a personal record—reflections on life, emotions, and a sense of wonder toward everyday reality, where gravity intertwines with humor.

Professor Strent’s organizational and pedagogical activity has helped shape the Polish artistic community of recent decades. As a teacher and authority, he has formed successive generations of artists, holding numerous positions in academic institutions and artistic organizations. Yet despite his impressive achievements and numerous honors, he has remained modest and warm. This attitude—grounded in attentiveness and respect—also permeates his work. Imaginarium is therefore not only a story about an artist’s imagination, but also about the sensitivity of a person who co-creates what is most valuable in culture.
