Doug Panton RCA is an award-winning artist and designer. He has achieved a variety of accolades in both practices and continues to receive assignments that require the design complexity of a multi-faceted project outcome. This has enabled him to experience and expand his competency in a hybrid manner. With his varied industry experience as an advertising art director and as a designer/art director in the publishing arena, Doug has applied this methodology to further develop his interdisciplinary nature as an artist/illustrator.
My work has always been about detailed imagery. I have subconsciously been in this playground for a long time, creating intricate images as far back as I could remember. Recently, I’ve begun an exploration of ambiguous art that provides multiple acuities–depictions that entail a change in frame references–a reconstruct of a picture and its components. The process is organic and serendipitous. These are images that change despite perceptual grouping, often referred to as reversible images. My method of deconstructing and reassembling fragments into a new and cohesive order somehow makes sense other times to be revisited and contemplated.
